I was watching the King David miniseries the time he decided to stay in his palace and not going any more to the battle field.
This remind me about a Bible verse:
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
Romans 8.5-6
While David had his mind full of the things that would come from above, he had no time to look below, right or left.
His eyes were always lifted up to where the answers, the power, the comfort was coming.
One day he gave ears to his flesh, and decided to stay behind, what we can call the comfort zone, and the excuses were more than many to contradict all his soldiers and counselors instructions.
Though everyone was not understanding why, he staid behind. A man that was used to fight, to conquer cities, to bring the glory to God from all that he would accomplished, decided to take a break and rest.
The result? He committed several mistakes that brought to his life, reign, and family pain, destruction, brother against brother, killings and much more.
All because his mind was not anymore in the thinks that were coming from God.
And this happened, is happening and will happen with each one of us if we do not avoid our mind to be empty.
As the Bible verse tell us, our mind can be set in the things of the flesh or in the things of the Spirit.
Several times, David went to his bedroom to the balcony and was looking, but always looking above, to the sky, but this time, he looked below where he could see the wife of one of his soldiers having bath.
He did not wasted time, immediately asked her to come to his bedroom.
If he had gone to the battle, he would not had time to allow his flesh to speak laud.
How many of us we look to our problems, family issues, financial situations that seem not to stop, health problems, and so many other struggles that we face in life, and we do not seek God's advice, we do not seek His voice, His direction?
And then we end up by committing mistakes that will end up bringing really bad consequences.
After what happen, David repented but was too late. He asked the soldier, the husband of Bathsheba to be killed to cover their sin, they lost the baby, and many other consequences.
"but to be spiritually minded is life and peace"
The things from God bring life and peace. When our mind is full of His words, His thoughts, His instructions, there is no space hear anything else.
This is very strong and every time I see this video I realize how important is to fight against myself, my will my flesh, because the results, if I give hears to that, will be disastrous.
I have been there and I suffered the pain of not giving ears to what God spoke to me.
8 long years of suffering and pain. But this is for another post.
