"...That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness..." Ephesians 4.20-24
Several things called my attention on this passage.
TAUGH - to acquire knowledge by practicing
My first question to myself was if I am hering God's voice, if I am hearing what He is telling me?
His voice is sweet and soft and if I do not pay close attention, due to the everyday things, His voice can pass unnoticed.
In this passage He is reminding me that I need to keep putting off my old self.
But how can I do that?
I asked myself how could that old self come back?
By having the same old thoughts, the same old eyes, the same old words, the same old behaviour.
If I do not watch close, the old self can come back very easy.
If i do not watch, if I do not live in holiness, in spirit of praying, with my thoughts connected with God, due to be more connected (spending more time) with people that is not on the same faith I am I can end up contaminated.
I asked also to myself how is the new self, created to be like God, by Him?
How can I clothe myself with the new self?
When I read His word, meditate on it, daily, as His word is my life manual.
The new self was created by God so we can become like Him.
Pure, holy, upright, faithfull to what we say and do, righteous, etc...
These are few of the charactristics that I need to be clothe with, that I need to live with daily, so I can fight back when the old self tries to come back.
By having my mind connected with God's thoughts will be impossible to go back to who I was, the opposite, I will be closer to Him because my life, my reason of living is in Him.
